Discovery of the Body
On May 12, 1932, a delivery truck driver by the name of William Allen pulled off onto a road about 4.5 miles form the Lindbergh home. He went to a grove of trees to relieve himself, and he discovered the body of a young toddler. He notified the police right away. The body was deep into the decomposition state, and the skull was badly fractured. Both hands and the left leg were missing, and it looked as if it had been chewed on by various animals. There were also signs that someone had made an attempt to bury the body.
The baby was then identified as Charles Lindbergh Jr., and it was discovered that the child had been killed by a gunshot to the head. When the U.S. Congress heard about what had happened, kidnapping became a federal crime and the FBI aided in the case. Later on, John Condon was questioned by police and his house was searched. Nothing was found that connected Condon to the crime, and Lindbergh was on Condon’s side throughout the investigation.
